DescriptionSkellings wrote "Listening" for poet William Meredith, who had suffered a stroke and had difficulty speaking. The poem came after Skellings recorded Meredith and edited his halting speech. "Listening" refers to Meredith's early book "Open Sea" and other poems as well as to Richard Harteis who helped Meredith regain his speech.
